Treat the family to hot dogs this weekend – make these caramelised onion hot dogs for a delicious dinner. Use Butcher's Choice frozen sausages and buttery brioche buns for a wallet-friendly meal, topped with sweet and sticky caramelised onions. See method
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 10g butter
- 3 red onions, thinly sliced
- ½ tbsp caster sugar
- 1 tbsp wholegrain mustard
- 8 Butcher’s Choice pork sausages
- 1 pack 8 butter brioche rolls
- 40g mature Cheddar, grated
- 180g pack coleslaw
If you don't have red onions, try using white, brown or spring onions

Method
- Heat the oil and butter in a frying pan over a medium heat, add the onions and fry for 20 mins, stirring occasionally until very soft. Increase the heat and stir through the sugar and mustard and cook for 5 mins until lightly caramelised. Season to taste with salt and black pepper.
- Meanwhile, cook the sausages according to packet instructions.
- Cut open the rolls down the top making sure not to cut all the way through and fill with the sausages topped with the onions and a sprinkle of cheese. Serve with the coleslaw on the side.
