These fun and delicious biscuits can be made up to a week in advance. Store in an airtight container until giving as a present. See method
Ingredients
- 250g (9oz) butter, softened
- 150g (5oz) caster sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 15ml (1 tbsp) milk
- 5ml (1tsp) vanilla extract
- 300g (10 1/2oz) plain flour
- 200g (7oz) milk chocolate

Method
- Preheat the oven to gas 4, 180°C, fan 160°C. Put the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl and cream together until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg yolk, milk and vanilla then sift in the flour and mix to form a soft, pliable dough.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly-floured surface and carefully cut out about 20 label shapes.
- Lift onto a baking tray and make a small hole with a skewer so you can thread a ribbon through. Bake for 20 mins until pale golden, then allow to cool.
- Melt the milk chocolate in a bowl over a pan of gently simmering water. Dip half of each biscuit in the chocolate. Let the excess drip off then place on a sheet of nonstick baking paper and allow the chocolate to set. Tie a length of festive ribbon through each biscuit label.
