Whip up a quick batch of jam if you've a glut of soft fruit that's gone past its best. You'll just need 300g caster sugar and 300g strawberries, blackberries or raspberries. Perfect for slathering on toast or for sandwiching in a Victoria sponge. See method

Method
- Put the soft fruit into a large pan with the caster sugar and crush lightly with a fork. Put the pan over to gently heat and bring to the boil.
- Remove the scum that come to the surface with a spoon. Reduce the jam until it becomes quite thick, then pour it into a bowl and allow to cool. Chill until needed.
