We've upgraded a simple vodka and orange-inspired cocktail with a warm, spiced syrup. This is a summer sharing tipple to impress! See method
Ingredients
- ice cubes
- 35cl bottle vodka
- 500ml smooth orange juice
- 1 orange, sliced, to serve
For the spiced syrup
- 100g caster sugar
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- strip of orange peel
- ½ tsp vanilla extract

Method
- To make the syrup, put the sugar, star anise, cinnamon, orange peel and 100ml water in a saucepan. Put over a medium heat for 2-3 mins, until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from the heat and set aside to steep and cool (about 15 mins). Once cool, remove the whole spices and peel; stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the spiced syrup into a large jug with a few handfuls of ice, the vodka and orange juice. Stir to combine, then add the orange slices to serve.
Tip: Make this 1-2 hrs ahead, leaving out the ice and orange slices until serving, and store in the fridge.
