This nut brittle uses just three ingredients and makes a lovely food gift at Christmas or any time of year. Alternatively, make a batch as a fab festive snack – it keeps for two weeks, if it doesn't disappear before! See method

- 200g caster sugar
- 100g shelled walnut halves
- pinch of sea salt

Method
- Line a baking tray with baking paper. Heat a frying pan over a medium-high heat. Sprinkle in the caster sugar. Melt for 4-5 mins until a dark amber-coloured caramel forms, swirling the pan often but not stirring.
- Remove from the heat, add the walnut halves and swirl the pan again to coat the nuts in the caramel.
- Carefully pour the walnut caramel onto the lined baking tray, sprinkle over the salt and set aside until completely cool. Once cool, slice the brittle into shards. Store in an airtight container in a cool place for up to 2 weeks.
